Medical Intervention & Offender Well-Being

This course is open to all sworn or non-sworn juvenile detention/probation staff, medical first responders, or related public service agency personnel.
Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and practical exercises, this 2-hour course will provide attendees with principles and techniques that will help them interact with juvenile offenders in both custody and public settings. Legal duties regarding supervision will be discussed with an emphasis on recognition of medical emergencies and proper response to them.
Topics covered will include:
- Deliberate Indifference
- Estelle Decision
- Constitutional Law
- Idaho Codes
- Medical emergencies
- Likely symptoms encountered
- Suicidal inmates
- Emergency transportation
