Communication, De-escalation, and Use of Force for Patrol

This course is open to all sworn Patrol/Detention Personnel, in any division of Law Enforcement.

This newly updated POST certified class includes updates from Federal Court rulings related to the balancing of Use of Force and De-escalation decisions.

Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and practical exercises, this 4-hour course will provide students with principles and techniques that will help them better handle tense interactions with the public/arrestees/inmates.

Topics covered will include:

  • Four-step communication
  • Officer safety
  • Uninvolved bystanders
  • Video recording devices
  • Mental illness factors
  • Time vs Need for Action
  • Use of Force options
  • Confrontational Conversations

This course has been approved for 4 hours of POST training credit.

Chad served 23 years in Idaho law enforcement. As a commander, he achieved Advanced Patrol and Level III Detention certificates. At ICRMP, Chad trains law enforcement personnel with the highest level POST-certified training available to law enforcement and offers 30 state-wide certified classes. He also assists agencies in developing their own certified training departments.
