Detox/Mental Health Holds and Protocols

This course is open to all sworn or non-sworn Command Level Supervisors, or above, in any division of Law Enforcement or related public service agency personnel.

This newly updated POST certified class includes updates for all line to command level staff members.

Presented through a combination of classroom lecture and practical exercises, this 2-hour course will provide students with principles and techniques that will help them better handle citizen/suspects that are either dealing with mental health crisis or alcohol related detoxification. Laws surrounding intervention and protective custody for both will be covered.

Topics covered will include:

  • Key concepts/definitions
  • How to address officer safety.
  • Mental illness response
  • Likely symptoms encountered.
  • De-escalation techniques
  • Communication recommandations
  • Idaho Code and Statues

This course has been approved for 2 hours of POST training credit.

Chad served 23 years in Idaho law enforcement. As a commander, he achieved Advanced Patrol and Level III Detention certificates. At ICRMP, Chad trains law enforcement personnel with the highest level POST-certified training available to law enforcement and offers 30 state-wide certified classes. He also assists agencies in developing their own certified training departments.
